Chicago's A-Squared seeks submissions(Jul09)

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
A-Squared Theatre Workshop, Chicago’s newest Asian American theatre company, currently seeks submissions for the “A-Squared Cabaret”. The Cabaret is a place for Asian American theatre artists to explore new works, reinvent old ones and showcase solo pieces. We seek performances from dance to song to experimental to monologues to comedy skits to stand up to improv, etc. We also seek musicians to perform between acts. Submissions conceived and/or performed by Asian American artists are greatly encouraged. Devised work also strongly encouraged. The Cabaret takes place in Autumn/Winter 2009/10 in Chicago. Submissions will be chosen based on artistic merit, clarity of vision, and balance with the other pieces. Send your submissions by July 31, 2009. Thanks!

THEATER COMPANY INFORMATION
A-Squared Theater Workshop is a Chicago based collective that creates an artistic environment of risk taking and growth for Asian American theater artists by dynamically bringing Asian American stories to the stage for general theater-going audiences.

SUBMISSION OUTLINE
All applications must include:
1. Letter of Intent: Maximum one page giving an overview of your work and how developed it is. What do you plan to do and how will you do it? What excites you about it?

2. Support Materials: We will accept anything that gives us an idea about what your work is: a CD of music; a DVD of a performance (5 minutes or less); a script or excerpts; a treatment of a script that has yet to be written; etc.

~~3. Resumes and short bios (50 words or less) of key performers. Letters of support from professional artists also accepted.~~

RULES & REGULATIONS
By submitting your proposal, you agree with the following:
• Your piece must be 20 minutes or less.
• Your piece must be able to be performed a few times a night in rotation with other pieces.
• A-Squared is not responsible for the handling of your sets/props etc.
• A-Squared will have one stage manager to share amongst all artists so your piece must be mostly self-sufficient. (There will be volunteers to help with the flow of the whole Caberet.)
• Each artist must comply with forthcoming rules in terms of room usage and damage (painting, hanging things on walls, etc.)
• Participating artists are responsible for obtaining the relevant production rights for their shows and performers.

DEADLINE
