Jeannie Barroga

Jeannie Barroga has been writing plays since 1981 and has been the Literary Manager at TheatreWorks in Menlo Park since 1985. Her work has been produced nationwide and her work has been published in five books. "TALK-STORY" published in "But Still Like Air We Rise", Velina Houston, editor) premiered at TheatreWorks in 1992. Other plays and dissertations appear in "Performing Asian America", Josephine Lee, editor; "Women Playwrights of Diversity", Jane T. Peterson, Suzanne Bennett, editors. "Two Plays by Jeannie Barroga" CrossCurrents, publisher; and "Unbroken Thread", Roberta Uno, editor. RITA'S RESOURCES premiered at the Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, New York 1995., Barroga served on grants panels in San Francisco, San Mateo, Oakland, and Boston. For her contribution to theatre, she receive the Maverick Award from the Los Angeles Women's Festival in 1996. Her musical workshop production of THE BUBBLEGUM KILLERS (based on a true incident on Filipino gangs who affected labor laws in 1930s San Francisco) was presented at Il Teatro, San Francisco, TheatreWorks New Works Forum, Menlo Park, and on September 19, 1999 at FPAC Los Angeles. TALK-STORY will be produced at UC-Davis beginning October 28, 1999.
