SHP opens call for Judy Soo Hoo's Texas

THE SOCIETY OF HERITAGE PERFORMERS (SHP) will be presenting the world premiere of Judy Soo Hoo's play Texas for a three-week limited run. The performance is tentatively scheduled to open Sept. 30 and close Oct. 17 at the Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood (performances will be Thurs-Sat. at 8 pm and Sunday at 4 pm). Note though that the play dates may be pushed back to late Oct. or early Nov. We will be holding auditions on Sunday, Aug. 29 from 10 am-4 pm with callbacks scheduled for Tues. evening Aug. 31 with rehearsals scheduled to begin the first week of Sept. Rehearsals will take place on weekday evenings and weekend days throughout Sept. (5-6 rehearsals a week).

This will be an Equity waiver (non-union) production. Auditions are open but will be by appointment only so call (323) 993-7245 before Aug. 29 to set up an audition time. The audition will take place at the offices of Ratt Entertainment, 9060 Santa Monica Blvd. (east of Doheny), Suite 350, West Hollywood. Sides will be available starting mid-morning Fri., Aug. 27. They will be in a box outside 9060 Santa Monica Blvd. in front of the REAR entrance door. Actors are also encouraged to prepare a 2 minute monologue. SYNOPSIS: STEVEN, a college freshman, comes to stay with two wacked-out brothers, DUKE and DANNY, who live in a trailer park on the flats of Texas. During a night of vicious psychological and physical games pitting the two brothers against each other, Steven learns the awful truth about the brothers and their secret past. He is ultimately forced to pit one brother against the other for his escape from their world.

STEVEN: 20s, Asian American male, college student, unassuming, duplicitous, sneaky and devious.

DANNY: 20-30s, Asian American male, innocent, naive, sheltered but high-strung and excitable.

DUKE: 20-30s, Asian American male, explosive with a dangerous undercurrent, menacing, hot-headed, ornery.

ALL THREE ROLES ARE LANGUAGE ORIENTED AND REQUIRE SOME PHYSICALITY AND MOVEMENT.
