Production with NATCO, international appearance

Ma-Yi Theatre and the National Asian American Theatre Company join forces to stage Kaufman and Hart's You Can't Take It With You. Featuring an all Asian cast, performances are slated to begin February 14, 1998 in New York City. The play will be directed by Stephen Stout, who helmed NATCO's last two productions of O'Neill "Ah, Wilderness!" and "Long Days Journey Into Night."

As well, this fall, Ma-Yi Theatre took its production of Ralph Pena's "Flipzoids" to the New WORLD Theatre in Amherst, Massachusetts where it played to sold-out houses. In June 1998, Ma-Yi will bring the same production to the Philippines as its official entry to the Centennial Arts Festival at the Cultural Center of the Phillipines. The cast will feature Obie winner Ching Valdes Aran. Mia Katigbak, and Ken Leung. 1998 marks the 100th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

Ma-Yi Theatre and NATCO hosted a benefit to raise funds for Ching Valdes Aran who is in need to hip replacement surgery. The benefit was held at the NYSF Public Theatre and featured performances by such artists as Jessica Hagedorn, Eve Ensler, Nicky Paraiso, Ching Gonzales, and Lucia Hwong. The benefit which was chaired by Loy Arcenas, F. Murray Abraham, and Ellen Stewart raised $12,000 which will help cover the cost of Ching's surgery and rehabilitation.
