The Northwest Asian American Theatre begins search for business manager

The Northwest Asian American Theatre (NWAAT) announces a nation-wide search for a new Business Manager following the departure of Managing Director Kathy Hsieh.

Katie Kiyonaga, Board President, says, "We are saddened by Kathy's departure but are confident that we will be able to find someone qualified to continue the work that Kathy has started."

Kathy Hsieh and Manuel R. Cawaling, outgoing Associate Artistic Director, were recently honored at NWAAT's annual fundraising event The Community Showoff. In a heartfelt presentation by NWAAT's Board of Directors, these NWAAT veterans were presented with awards acknowledging and celebrating their immeasurable hours of hard work and their tireless dedication.

Kathy Hsieh says, "It is my commitment to the Northwest's Asian American community and my belief in the mission of NWAAT that has fueled my seven years at NWAAT. I'd like to thank everyone at NWAAT for a truly rewarding, and wonderful experience."

Bea Kiyohara, NWAAT's previous Artistic Director and Board member, says, "The current season will continue as planned. We would like to express our thanks to the community that has been extremely supportive during this transitional time. Much thanks to Kathy for her commitment to NWAAT. We wish her the best in all of her future adventures."

Position Description: BUSINESS MANAGER

The Northwest Asian American Theater (NWAAT) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, detail oriented, and community-minded individual to serve as Business Manager; leading NWAAT in the Asian Pacific Islander American (API) community.

Duties:

Support the Artistic Director in their development of NWAAT's artistic vision while providing them with

strong fiscal and management recommendations;

Work with the Board of Directors and Artistic Director to plan and facilitate long term direction for NWAAT;

Serve as a voice for NWAAT in the arts, business, and API communities;

Oversee overall organizational management of NWAAT;

Generate public interest for Asian American Theatre in the API and greater communities;

Provide leadership to NWAAT staff, facilitating all NWAAT activities working in collaboration with the Artistic Director;

Supervise the Development Director, Pit/Marketing Director, and Facilities Operations Manager, while also being able to serve in their place;

Work with the Development Director on writing grants and developing fundraising strategies;

Work with NWAAT's PR Director to develop and implement Pit/Marketing campaigns for all NWAAT events;

Serve as NWAAT's primary financial accounts manager;

Hire, train, and supervise audience services staff and volunteer coordinators;

Hire temporary and permanent staff for additional administrative support;

Promote NWAAT in the Asian Pacific Islander communities by attending other organizational fund-raisers and community events;

Network with other arts colleagues and organizations; maintaining and building organizational relationships;

Serve as NWAAT's spokesperson to neighborhood organizations and district action groups;

Qualifications:

-Minimum two years experience in arts administration, non-profit arts organizations, and/or possess a strong business administration background. Has responsible management experience that includes: supervising staff; planning directing, and reviewing operations; evaluating programs; and assuring success of overall project implementation efforts.

-Skills and experience in facilitating a decision-making process for individuals and groups with diverse and backgrounds.

-College degree from (4) year university in business administration/public administration or related degree;

-Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds within the Asian Pacific Islander American Community;

-Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide leadership to staff, artists, and personnel. Must be able to communicate effectively to artists and non-artists. Strong negotiation skills are a plus.

-Experience or knowledge of Asian American theatre and/or Seattle theatre are a plus;
