Stir-Friday Night
reviews
"The recasting of Driving Miss Daisy as an
Asian film, with the Green Hornet's Xato as the driver, is quick and hillarious.
A job interview featuring [Quincy] Wong and newcomer Roddy Chiong turns
into a maddening word association game that constantly plays off and into
Asian and Asian-American stereotypes.
"Chiong, who graduated from Indiana University with
a combined degree in telecommunications and African American studies, is
particularly good. But he's exceptional in the last sketch, a laugh riot
takeoff on dubbed martial arts films. In this piece, Chiong plays a young
Chinese chef who takes on the Japanese restaurant mafia in an intraAsian
food fight...
"Chiong's dancing talents come into play as he mocks
and toys with martial arts moves. His expressive face and exquisite timing
give the piece a spark well beyond the script."

"YMII fulfills the potential only hinted at
during Stir-Friday Night's runs last year at George Street Cafe and TurnAround
Theater. The dancing and singing interludes (and the "amateur hour"
atmosphere they lent) are gone The group, composed of Daisy Castro, Wayne
Eji, Ken Hamada, Jennifer Liu, Ron Mok, Seema Sueko, Joe Yau, and Wong,
has toughened its writing, sharpened its timing, and gotten damned funny
overall.
"YMII is peppered widh yellow esoterica: references
to Russell Wong (actor) and the National Association of Asian American Professionals
(yuppie network), for example, might baffle non-Asian Americans. But the
show just as often focuses on easily recognizable icons, and sends them
up wickedly."
