Artists at Play presents Los Angeles premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them

Artists at Play presents the Los Angeles premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them, a heartfelt and witty drama about a makeshift family, written by A. Rey Pamatmat and directed by Jennifer Chang.

First produced in a rolling world premiere as part of the 2011 Humana Festival of New American Plays, Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them introduces us to 12-year-old Edith and her older brother Kenny, two Filipino American kids living in Middle America, abandoned by their parents. Kenny watches the money and makes sandwiches, while Edith goes on adventures with her stuffed frog and trusty BB gun. When Kenny and his classmate Benji begin to explore a relationship beyond friendship, Edith realizes she will have to stand guard to protect her newfound family. Opening on October 20 and running through November 10, 2012 at GTC Burbank, this show is the sophomore outing for theatre-producing collective
Artists at Play.

"A. Rey Pamatmat's play brims over with so many rich details in relationship, time, place, character," says director Jennifer Chang. "There are lots of great plays but you don't always get to connect with a play on a really specific, personal level as in the case of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them. I can definitely relate to the 'fish-out-of-water' sensation of otherness that the characters experience."

A. Rey Pamatmat recently received the Hodder Fellowship in Playwriting from the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University and is the current Playwright of New York Fellow at The Lark Play Development Center.

Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them has received multiple productions throughout the country and was awarded the 2012 Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award Citation. The play has been developed at The Public Theatre, Ma-Yi Theatre Company, The National Asian American Theatre Festival, Victory Gardens and the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville.

About Artists at Play
Artists at Play was founded last year by Peter J. Kuo, Julia Cho, Stefanie Wong Lau and Marie-Reine Velez. With an emphasis on but not limited to Asian American theatre, Artists at Play continues to bring new narratives to the stage that aim to challenge, engage and broaden the theatrical experience. After the success of their inaugural production, the Los Angeles premiere of Lauren Yee¹s Ching Chong Chinaman, this new group continues to build their body of work while carving out a role in the local theatre scene.
