Honolulu, HI? Our most prolific playwright and the author of It¹s All Relative and Aloha Las Vegas, Edward Sakamoto finds laughter and warmth in this loving portrait of historic Hawai`i.
It¹s 1913 and two Big Island fishermen realize they have women problems. Lonely and bored with catching fish, Nishi sends for a picture bride from Japan, but sneaks a photo of his handsome friend Aoki in his place. The bride arrives and falls in love ? with the wrong man ? setting off a comic battle of the sexes.

EDWARD SAKAMOTO received the Hawai`i Award for Literature from then Gov. Cayetano in 1998 at a State Capitol ceremony. He's also the recipient of Po`okela writing awards for Aloha Las Vegas and Our Hearts Were Touched With Fire, about the 100th-442nd Regimental Combat Team. Fishing for Wives is Sakamoto's 19th play; Kumu Kahua Theatre has produced fifteen of these. His plays have been staged in such venues as East West Players in Los Angeles, Pan Asian Repertory Theatre in New York City, Sacramento, San Francisco, Stockton, and others. Fishing for Wives is also scheduled to be staged by Pan Asian Repertory in New York City in 2014. Sakamoto has also been the recipient of a Rockefeller American Playwrights in Residence Fellowship, and an NEA grant.

Edward is a graduate of Iolani School and the University of Hawai`i with a BA in English. The most recent Sakamoto play premiered by KKT was Mahalo Las Vegas, the sequel to Aloha Las Vegas, in 2006.

This show is expected to sell out most performances; advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended.
