BFE by Julia Cho
Exploring beauty, boyfriends and the battle of being alone
August 20 - September 19, 2010

San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater (SDAART) in residence at La Jolla Playhouse presents BFE by Julia Cho directed by Peter James Cirino.

An Asian American teen just wants to fit in and escape her dysfunctional family in this dark comedy set in “BFE” (Anytown USA). But can she live up to the standards of Western beauty that her delusional mother, perky Korean pen pal, and local serial killer expect of her?  Panny is looking for love and acceptance, but can she find it?  BFE delves into the current topics of stalking, American culture obsession, racial stereotypes, and relationship dynamics.

“SDAART chose to produce this play because part of its mission is to portray Asian- Americans within the multicultural American community. It showcases characters who are Asian, Caucasian, African-American, and Latino and how they interrelate beyond race,” says Elise Kim Prosser, President of SDAART.

BFE is “an insightful, beautifully structured          drama about the agonies and          comforts of isolation…” –The New York Times

“…the powerful ending makes this one of the year’s best plays.” -SGN
