Vuthy is a quirky 16-year-old who thinks it's a good day if he can make it home without getting beat up for being "too Cambodian for the black and Latin kids, and not Cambodian enough for the Cambodian kids.” Ra, his older sister is working towards the American dream of a higher education their immigrant mother never had. Layered with humor and heartbreak, Year Zero is an American story of young Asians trying to find their place in life while still dealing with the legacy their parents left behind.

Critics across the country have praised Year Zero:

"A very smart, sweet, honest and uncommonly moving new play… Michael Golamco is a significant new dramatic voice."  – Chicago Tribune

"Powerful, moving, and entirely winning" – Stage Scene L.A.

"Golamco's play is subtle, character-driven, and engrossing, revealing its secrets via nuance" - Back Stage

"this is simply great theatre. . . . Full of endearing, likeable characters and a sweet story, Year Zero is a simply marvelous play." – Arts Beat L.A.

"Golamco writes with insight and compassion about unique challenges facing the offspring of Cambodian refugees." - Los Angeles Times

""Year Zero" explores Asian identity issues with humor and sensitivity." - The New York Times

Rated "PG-13" for strong language and a suggestive situation.
