SIS Productions presents a day-long festival of new readings

Insatiable! Seattle’s 2nd Asian American Playwright’s Festival

SIS Productions, the creators of the popular Sex in Seattle series, is thrilled to present Insatiable! Seattle’s 2nd Asian American Playwright’s Festival, a day-long festival of new play readings by local Asian American playwrights on Saturday, December 1, 2007.  All readings will be at Prima Vera Arts Center, located at 112 5th Avenue North, 2nd Floor. Located in a two-story storefront, the entrance is at the back of the building, just North of Denny, off of Taylor Avenue North, located on the East side of the Seattle Center. Tickets are $5 per reading for general admission; $9 for a 3-reading pass; or $12 for an all-fest pass. 2 – 3pm
A New Work by Richard Sloniker

     Richard Sloniker is a writer, educator, and actor who has performed throughout the Puget Sound region with production companies including the Washington Shakespeare Festival, The Seattle Children's Theatre, Book-It Repertory Theatre, The Village Theatre, and SIS Productions. His plays have been seen on stages for Theatre Creatures and the Northwest Asian American Theatre. He has also spent several years developing and directing acting and digital media production classes for the Seattle Parks and Recreation at Asa Mercer, Denny, and McClure Middle Schools. Richard is currently working toward his MFA at the University of Washington in their Professional Actor Training Program.

A New Work by Serin Ngai
     Serin Ngai was the original playwright of the comedic Sex in Seattle series who co-created and wrote episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7.  She was also a founding executive producer of SIS Productions.  Serin has written sketch comedy (OPM) and her work has been seen on stage in Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.  In addition to playwriting, Serin is an actress who has appeared in independent films and performed with various local theater companies including SIS Productions, ReAct, Seattle Public Theater, Experimental Theater Project, and Book-It Repertory.  Serin is also an attorney who practices family law and general civil litigation.  She would like to thank SIS, the SIS Writers Group, and her husband Richard.

5 – 5:30pm
A New Work by Roger Tang
     Roger Tang is a theatre veteran of three decades, who began his career as a designer for David Henry Hwang and Philip Kan Gotanda. As a writer, he is the author of Third Generation Heritage and numerous sketches for the Pork Filled Players. As a producer, he helmed the Northwest premieres of Gotanda’s Dream of Kitamura, Genny Lim’s Paper Angels and Hwang’s Bondage. He has taught Asian American history at the University of Washington and was instrumental in building the Theatre Off Jackson as Development Director for the Northwest Asian American Theatre. Called the "Godfather of Asian American theatre" by A. Magazine, he is Managing Producer for the Pork Filled Players (Seattle’s oldest sketch comedy group), sits on the board at Repertory Actors Theatre, edits the Asian American Theatre Revue (um...that's right here...) and administers the aa-drama mailing list. As well, he is a sound designer for various local theatres.

The Silver Key by Maggie Lee
     When Eleanor was thirty, she lost the key of the gate of dreams. But can she ever recover that which she can’t remember being lost in the first place, as the dream world collides with reality? Inspired by the story by H.P. Lovecraft.
     Maggie Lee is a writer, actor, lighting designer, and puppet mistress for The Pork Filled Players, Seattle’s only Asian American sketch comedy group. She has also worked with other theater companies such as ReAct, GreenStage, Open Circle Theater, and SiS Productions. In 2006, she adapted a stage version of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Thing on the Doorstep for OCT’s The Colour Out of Space. She has a BA in English and a minor in Lighting Design from UC Berkeley.

Saudade by Kathy Hsieh

    A man. A woman. Desire and longing. She reaches back into the past for a love long lost. He strives to find his future in the fantasy of fate. The possibility yet impossibility of passion. “She stood before me and beckoned and all I could do was follow. Where we went, I know not. Her presence lingers with me still. Was she a memory? A dream? The tangible reality of she whom I desire and cannot have? I am at a loss, yet never have I felt more alive . . . “

     Kathy Hsieh is an award-winning actor, writer and director. Her scripts have been produced by the Northwest Asian American Theatre, Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre, and featured at the Seattle Fringe Theatre Festival and 14/48. Her script B4 was selected as part of the recent International Centre for Women Playwrights’ Chicago Her-rah Festival 2007 and she was featured in The Dramatist Magazine’s July/August cover story as one of “50 to Watch.” She created the concept for Sex in Seattle along with her friend Moi and has written nine scripts for the episodic series. As an artist she has been honored by the National Association of Asian American Professionals in Seattle as their Artist of the Year in 2003 and by ArtsFund that same year. By day she works for the Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.

Blue Capture (a comedy)by Daniel Arreola
     After the loss of his best friend, a man reflects upon his past and present.
     Daniel Arreola has been involved in Seattle's theatre community since 1997. His past writing credits include Dome Light, Get Lit, and Facade as well as other short stories and poetry performed around Seattle. His plays have been seen at NW Asian American Theatre, Theater Schmeater, NW Actor's Studio, and at Freehold Studio Lab. As an actor, he has been seen in productions such as Sex In Seattle, The Twilight Zone, R&J, West Side Story, True West, Lone Star, and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea to name a few. Recently, he has also directed The Original Motherfucker by Suzan-Lori Parks at 365 Days / 365 Plays theatre festival held nationwide. Daniel is a Capitol Hill resident and also has photography, films, and designer experience to his credit. 

SIS Productions is a production company that strives to create, develop and produce quality works that involve Asian American women, their themes, and Asian American issues.  SIS Productions encourages opportunities and support for Asian American women to be involved in all aspects of the production of artistic endeavors. 

The SIS Writers Group was established in 2005 to encourage and promote Asian American playwrights to develop their work and actively engage in the craft of writing new plays.
