New Works in Progress

San Francisco's Asian American Theater Company proudly presents three evenings of monologues by two of the Bay Area's premiere API women writers. Suz Takeda and Wilma Consul will perform their works in progress at the Center for African and African American Arts and Culture's Buriel Clay Theater (Thursday January 14th , and Friday January 15th) and in Oakland at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center (January 22, 1999).

Suzie Wong is Dead! invites everyone to the wake of Asian Stereotypes. Come celebrate the birth of the New Asian Woman. Witness the Reverend Celeste Horiguchi baptize Asian pride converts. Meet Miss thang Ain't No Punk, The SWAT Girl, Manang, Tita and Tonya. These women kick butt, endure bad relationships, and sing the blues.

Suz Takeda (writer/performer) has done work with AATC, Asiantics, and other local Bay Area productions. Her most recent projects included a benefit for S.F. based taiko group, Gen Taiko, where she was a "Spice Girl", and working behind the scenes on Asiantic's production of Noel Benoza's "Right Between The Eyes" at Theater Yugen. Her performance is a sampling of a developing solo work. Suz is an East Bay Native&Mac183;hey! Judi Hamaguchi serves as her director for this series.

Wilma B. Consul (writer/performer) served as artistic director of Teatro ng Tanan (TNT) last year. She has worked with Brava! For Women in the Arts, Kulintang Arts, Tongue in the Mood, Asian American Theater Company, and Jean Leon Destine Haitian Dance Company in New York. Her works have been presented at Wild Women, Dance Makers, and Culture Clash Multicultural Comedy Riot. She will play the role of Sisa in "Filipi-Noh" at the Tsunami Fusion Fest this spring
