The 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors began as resident artists at San Francisco's Asian American Theater Company in 1994. Since its premiere production, In Deep Shabu Shabu, the group has written and produced nine feature shows, three collaborations with respected groups such as Culture Clash, Campo Santo and Latina Theater Lab, and toured nationally and internationally at colleges, universities, arts festivals and theatrical venues. In just six years, the group has established itself as a new force in Asian Pacific Islander American arts. They've been touted as the "Asian American version of In Living Color" and were picked as the "Smash Hit" of the 1996 Hong Kong Fringe Arts Festival (the second largest in the world after the Edinburgh Fringe Festival). They wield their unique brand of comedy– culled from influences ranging from Monty Python ' Flying Circus and In Living Color to Culture Clash and Hone Kong action movies-both to entertain and to provoke thought about the issues that affect Asian Pacific Islander Americans. Non-Asian Pacific Islander American audiences have also responded very positively, because the group approaches issues in a non-didactic manner and laughter knows no cultural boundaries. The 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors are: Harold S. Byun, Valiant Chow, Linda Chuan, Rhoda Gravador, Rania Ho, Michael Chih Ming Hornbuckle, Todd Nakagawa, Michael Premsrirat, Greg Watanabe, Pearl Wong and Pete Wong.
